Accordion fold
:
A method of folding paper that resembles the bellows of an accordion.
Acid-free
:
Paper with a neutral pH or pH greater than or equal to 7, which helps increase paper longevity, as well as minimizing the harmful effects on objects such as photos that come in contact with paper. Fillers such as calcium carbonate help neutralize paper acidity.
Acidity
:
The amount of acid found in a paper substance is measured by its pH level. Classifications from 0 to 7 are considered acidic, while classifications measuring 7 to 14 are considered alkaline.
Against the grain
:
A 90° angle to the paper's fiber direction. For best results, generally fold with, rather than against, the grain.

:
Blank book for storing photographs and scrapbook pages.
Alkaline papermaking
:
A manufacturing method that uses caustic additives and fillers such as calcium carbonate to create paper with a pH measuring from 7 to 14 for uses in which paper permanence is critical.

:
Camera opening that lets in light. It opens and closes when the shutter releases.
Archival
:
Designation for acid-free paper with a minimum of 2% calcium carbonate to help minimize deterioration over time. Also referred to as "buffered paper".

:
Paper fashioned to emulate traditional antique, natural parchment.
